Even though your accessories are of the fashion variety does not mean you shouldn't care for them. If you want to savour the look, you must apply some effort in keeping them looking their best. It's really rather easy. Just buffing with a soft cloth is all that is necessary. If the piece you chose has a number of crevices that are hard to get at, a soft bristle toothbrush can be used to loosen and get the dust out.If for some reason your jewellery has become soiled, you can use a mild soap and water to clean it. Do not put the piece in the water. Use a cloth that has been soaked in the solution and then wrung out. Moisture is not good for these pieces and the less they come in contact with it the better.
There are some products on the market made specifically for this purpose. Be extremely careful you do not get the cleaning solutions confused and try and clean your fashion pieces in the solution made for real gold, silver, and diamonds. The chemicals used in the 'real' solution will quickly ruin your costumes pieces.
The worse solutions are alcohol, vinegar, and ammonia. Things that you may never think of as harmful are hand lotions, perfumes, and even hairspray. If you are going out for the evening, prepare yourself first and put your fashion pieces on last.
Storing the jewellery is easy with today's jewellery boxes. The small lined compartments are an ideal spot to place the pieces. Keeping the pieces apart will avoid any possible scratching.
Unlike real jewellery, costume jewellery is not meant to last a lifetime, it is subject to tarnish and fading no matter what you do. Still it is made to offer pleasure and that is what it will do.
